Beaman council approves wage increase for water operator, forwards FY2026 tax levy to county

The Beaman City Council on Sunday approved a pay increase for a municipal water employee contingent on professional licenses and authorized submission of the city’s proposed FY2026 property tax levy to the Grundy County Treasurer.
Mayor Ann Smith called the special meeting to order at 4:34 p.m. Council members Deb Ashton (attending electronically), Barry Brockman (attending electronically), Rhonda Rego, Jason Scafferi and Brandon Schleisman were present. City Clerk Denise Hoy also attended.
Council member Rhonda Rego moved that the council set wages for employee Dave Moorman at $27.50 per hour for all work performed for the City of Beaman once he obtains Grade I Water Treatment, Grade I Water Distribution and Grade I Lagoon Operators licenses. Council member Jason Scafferi seconded the motion. The council recorded the motion as approved, Ayes: 5.
The council then reviewed the city’s proposed FY2026 property tax levy. Members noted that the levy rate would change before certification to the Grundy County Treasurer because the payroll change approved for Moorman affects the tax rate calculation.
Council member Brandon Schleisman moved, and Council member Barry Brockman seconded, a motion authorizing City Clerk Denise Hoy to submit the proposed property tax levy to the Grundy County Treasurer “as discussed.” That motion carried unanimously, Ayes: 5.
The special meeting adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
