During committee reports and business updates, the council received staff reports on personnel and facility issues.
Randy Daniel, reporting under Water & Sewer, told the council he plans to retire in July 2025 and informed the council that he will raise his monthly contract fee from $1,000 to $1,200 beginning with February's payment. Daniel also submitted comments to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources sanitary survey, according to the minutes.
City Clerk Denise Hoy reported that Hawkeye Environmental of Solon, Iowa conducted asbestos surveying and sampling on the Memorial Building and found a thin layer of asbestos on the roof that must be mitigated before demolition can proceed. Separately, Council Member Jason Scafferi said a contractor quote for Memorial Building repairs came in at $6,825; he will ask the contractor for a breakdown of work so the council can decide what to authorize.
Maintenance supervisor Dave Moorman reported continued efforts to repair the sander and noted purchase of a new air compressor. The council instructed Moorman to begin tearing down the building north of the tennis court. The minutes also note that tires at the coop remain on site and were discussed under nuisance ordinances/abatement.
The meeting record does not indicate that the council took final action on demolition, asbestos mitigation or Memorial Building repairs at this meeting; the minutes record reporting and a request for further detail.
