Commissioners approve conveyance of abandoned county road strips to Forest Service, conditioned on access letter

At a Jan. 7 public hearing the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 2026-04 to supersede a 2024 resolution and convey a county-owned strip of land to the U.S. Forest Service, adding lots 7 and 8 to the prior conveyance for lot 1.
County staff said the road strip has been effectively abandoned and overgrown and noted an email from the Forest Service confirming that National Forest System Road 14433 (Nixon Road) is open year-round. One nearby private property owner (identified in the hearing as Browers/Dan) spoke and said the conveyance should proceed provided Nixon Road remains open and not gated off.
Commissioners voted to approve the resolution but conditioned adoption on receiving a Forest Service letter that explicitly states the agency has no intention of closing Nixon Road (or otherwise restricting access). Staff said that letter will be inserted into the official packet so the record includes Forest Service confirmation.
The board recorded no objections at the public hearing and directed staff to finalize the packet and the corresponding paperwork with the Forest Service.
