Salem Planning Commission votes to advertise November informational meeting on SALDO changes, solicitor seeks immediate fee and definition revisions

The Salem Township Planning Commission on Oct. 2 voted unanimously to advertise a special informational meeting in November to gather public comment on proposed amendments to the township Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO).
Township Solicitor Gary Falatovich asked the commission to expedite revisions to at least two SALDO provisions: the rule permitting the township to charge solicitor, engineering and other fees to applicants and to collect associated escrows; and clearer definitions that distinguish minor and major subdivisions, land developments, and side-lot additions that lack sewage-facilities planning. Falatovich said revising those sections would prevent future confusion and ensure developers, residents and the township have clearer expectations about costs and required documentation.
Commissioners agreed to advertise the informational meeting; the motion carried unanimously. The commission also voted unanimously to adjourn and set the next regular meeting for Nov. 6, 2024, at 6:00 p.m., if there is an agenda. The Oct. 2 meeting adjourned at 7:49 p.m.
What comes next: the Planning Commission will hold the advertised informational session in November to receive public comment; specific draft language for SALDO amendments was not presented on Oct. 2 and will be developed before the advertised meeting.
