Milo council approves financial resolutions, directs use of tourism grants and clears path for nuisance abatement

Council approved Resolutions 2024-19, 2024-20 and 2024-21 to dispose of matured CDs, correct sewer debt service and adopt the FY2024 annual financial report; it also authorized using tourism grants for bandstand repairs, approved nuisance abatement at 212 Pine Street and directed ordinance changes for no-parking zones.
At its Oct. 7 meeting the Milo City Council approved a set of finance and local-project actions, including three resolutions and a series of operational directions for events and property maintenance.
The council approved Resolution 2024-19 directing disposition of matured Community 1st Credit Union certificates of deposit and later approved Resolution 2024-20 to correct sewer debt service. The council also approved Resolution 2024-21 approving the FY2024 Milo Annual Financial Report. All three resolutions passed with Councilmembers Kinser, Wadle, Griggs and Mason voting aye; Councilmember Rasmussen was absent.
Council directed use of Warren County Tourism grants to support bandstand refurbishment: $500 (FY2021) and $2,040 (FY2022) were approved for the bandstand project and Operations Director Doug Hembry was instructed to obtain bids for phased repairs.
The council approved proceeding with nuisance abatement at 212 Pine Street and directed Doug Hembry to remove overgrowth of trees and vegetation. Council also directed the Clerk to proceed with drafting an ordinance amendment to add Milo no-parking areas to Chapter 69.08.
Additionally, the council agreed to keep old desks from the Clerk’s office for use at the council table (the desks were obtained through the Iowa DNR Waste Exchange program at no cost to the city) and authorized dismantling and storing the MiloRitaville chair for the Small Town Country Christmas event.
Several items were tabled for future action, including Resolution 2024-18 regarding the RAGBRAI account. No public comment was recorded on these items.
