Dwayne Livermore, representing the Drifter’s Car Club, asked the Missouri Valley City Council for $3,500 from hotel/motel tax funds to promote the club’s DrifterFest car show and an accompanying concert. Livermore said the club plans radio advertising (Boomer Radio), social media and flyers, and expects a larger turnout this year after roughly 500 people and about 90 cars attended the inaugural event.
Council members pressed for details about how the city would benefit financially, whether visitors would use local lodging and whether there would be overnight camping. Councilors noted the club received $2,500 last year and asked the organizers to document expected hotel room nights, sponsorships and other direct returns to local businesses before the council considers formal approval.
Livermore said the club is a nonprofit that gives back to the community — citing prior donations to Missouri Valley and Logan fire departments and an intent to award a high‑school scholarship — and that they plan to increase advertising to attract attendees from neighboring states. Council members suggested the club provide a short written request with a budget and information about expected overnight stays so the council can evaluate hotel/motel‑tax eligibility and return on investment.
The council did not take a final vote; members agreed to place the funding request on a future agenda for formal consideration. The council asked staff to schedule the item and requested the applicants return with documentation that supports the request.
