Monticello CSD board adopts 2025-26 calendar, expands preschool, approves budget guarantee and special education plan

The Monticello Community School District Board of Education on Feb. 24 approved a set of routine and policy items that will shape next school year, including the district calendar, an expansion of preschool services, and the five-year special education delivery plan.
The board approved the 2025-2026 school calendar as presented. Director Schlarmann moved the calendar; Director Rieken seconded. Directors Craig Stadtmueller, Norton, Schlarmann and Amsler voted to adopt the calendar; Director Rieken voted no.
The board unanimously approved adding a third preschool section (expanding from two to three sections) and the availability of childcare at Panther Academy on Wednesdays beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. Director Amsler made the motion; Director Norton seconded.
On finance and routine items, the board accepted a bid from School Bus Sales for a new 65-passenger bus at a price of $133,775, while noting that potential tariff impositions could affect the final cost. The motion to accept the bus bid passed unanimously. The board also accepted the fiscal year 2024 audit and approved a Budget Guarantee Resolution for 2025-2026 by roll call vote (Stadtmueller, Norton, Schlarmann, Rieken, Amsler all "aye").
The board approved the District Special Education Delivery Plan for 2025-2030, a required five-year plan presented by Special Programs Director Robyn Ponder. Director Rieken moved approval and Director Amsler seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Other procedural actions included setting March 24, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. for the first public hearing on the 2025-2026 budget and approving the second and final reading of Board Policy #401.3F3 (Disposition of Complaint Form). The consent agenda was approved as presented.
The board noted next steps: the first budget hearing is scheduled for March 24, and the district will proceed with procurement and program implementation steps authorized by these votes.
