Council notes airport, 5G tower, sidewalk and community event updates
Summary

During general updates the council and staff covered a series of short items. Staff said Verizon crews have installed a new antenna and the work should bring 5G service to parts of town; older equipment will be removed. Storm damage left a traffic signal in a temporary stop configuration while parts are located; staff did not yet have a repair timetable.
A downtown property owner, Doug Dixon, proposed replacing sidewalks on the north side of the square and asked whether the city would pay for curbing; council members discussed engineering, curb height and the sequencing of sidewalks relative to planned road work. The mayor reported the Pilot’s Lounge at the airport suffered roof damage and the city will likely tear the building down rather than invest more funds; the airport committee will consider next steps.
Main Street reported a successful National Night Out and upcoming events including a trunk-or-treat and mural design work in partnership with the University of Iowa.
