Solicitor: Columbia Gas request to PUC faces CSX crossing obstacle for borough gas line

Solicitor Garen Fedeles said Columbia Gas has submitted the PUC request and that obtaining an agreement with CSX to pass under the track would be difficult. Manager Dan Madgar had earlier described the potential benefit of a gas line as reducing propane costs for the borough building and noted Columbia Gas work is planned on Taylor Avenue, Wilson and East 2nd Street, including curbs and sidewalks, with work expected to start at the end of 2026 and continue into 2027.
Why this matters: securing a gas line could reduce ongoing propane costs for municipal facilities, but the need for a CSX agreement adds a significant legal and logistical hurdle. Solicitor Fedeles said he will provide updates to council as more information becomes available.
