Facilities report: Monticello schools complete summer projects, plan heat‑pump replacements

Director Dennis Dirks reported to the board on multiple facilities projects completed or underway during the summer: a special‑education room update; conversion of a paper room into a new Pre‑K room; installation of lockers; countertop work for secretarial offices; carpeting and painting in most classrooms; sequencing improvements to handicap doors and a new opener between the middle and high schools; finished auditorium carpet and gym tack strips; and plans to replace six failed heat pumps.
At the middle school, concession stand cabinets were installed and emergency radio power was added to all school offices. Welding bays were completed for last year’s classes. Dirks said the summer required substantial mowing and that the custodial and maintenance crews accomplished much despite being down one maintenance worker and one custodian. "It was a summer of mowing…and despite being down one maintenance worker and one custodian we still got a lot accomplished. Thank you to all of our custodial and maintenance staff!" Dirks said.
The update was informational; no board action on facilities was recorded in the meeting minutes.
