Monticello school board adopts county hazard mitigation resolution

The Monticello Community School District Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution adopting the Jones County Multi‑Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan at its July 28 meeting.
Brenda Leonard of Jones County Emergency Management presented the plan and requested board adoption. According to the presentation, the plan outlines coordinated steps across jurisdictions to reduce risks from natural hazards; Leonard asked the board to adopt the county plan to ensure the district is included in county mitigation actions.
Board President Craig Stadtmueller called the vote after discussion. John Schlarmann moved to approve the resolution; Mark Rieken seconded. The board approved the resolution by roll call: Schlarmann, Rieken, Amsler, Stadtmueller and Norton all voted aye. The motion carried.
The board did not attach additional conditions to the resolution. The adoption places the district on record as supporting the county plan and eligible to participate in mitigation activities and potential funding opportunities administered at the county level. The board may revisit implementation steps with staff as mitigation projects are proposed.
The board continued with other agenda business following the vote.
