Alleghany names WWII veteran Luther Marlowe grand marshal for 250th celebration

Robert Aubrey, chair of the Alleghany Veterans Advisory Committee, introduced Marlowe and described the veterans memorial projects the committee has supported. Aubrey highlighted the committee’s brick fund and maintenance balances and requested the proclamation. Commissioners moved and seconded the proclamation and the board approved the honor; the room gave Marlowe a standing ovation.
The county invited veterans and the public to attend a July 2 ceremony at the county building parking lot. The veterans committee also announced opportunities for youth to take photos with Marlowe during the event.
