Alleghany County updates opioid settlement spending plan, extends sheriff’s office spending deadline

Commissioners approved the MOA amendment by voice vote (recorded 4–0 where recorded). Staff noted the county is also expecting additional settlement funds from other opioid cases and may return with new strategies that reflect future receipts.
Keisha Maldonado, who said she lives in Laurel Springs, was identified as the local lead on managing opioid settlement work and invited commissioners to ask questions about specific strategy allocations.
Next steps: staff will implement the updated strategy amounts and monitor incoming settlement receipts to determine whether additional strategies or amendments are needed.
