Board advances first reading to expand food service at snow tubing concession

The Scott County Board of Supervisors moved forward with the first of two readings to amend Chapter 6 of the county code to clarify the definition of a 'Snow Tubing Facility Concession/Warming Area.' The amendment describes a structure that may contain restrooms, a warming area limited to changing or preparation space with occupancy limits, and a concession area to operate when the tubing hill is in operation.
Supervisor Dickson moved and Supervisor Paustian seconded the first reading; roll call was recorded as 'All Ayes.' During the preceding public hearing, Rily Grunwald, owner of Lost Oasis Snow Tubing (listed in the minutes as residing in Edridge), expressed interest in the ability to serve warm food at the facility.
The ordinance text specifies a rated occupancy 'no more than 150 occupants as determined by the Code Official in accordance with adopted County Construction Codes' and limits concession operations to times when the tubing facility is operating. The ordinance will return for a second reading and final adoption per the county's ordinance process.
