County administrator, supervisors report on property-tax monitoring, youth program funding and commuter-rail planning

DAVENPORT, Iowa — At its April 9 meeting County Administrator Mahesh Sharma reported that Scott County is monitoring state-level property tax legislation and expects to have more information on potential impacts. Sharma also said county leaders are discussing future funding for a Coordinated Assessment Program for youth, including potential support from the John Deere Foundation and local schools.

Sharma listed recent engagement with regional partners, including attendance at a Grow Quad Cities meeting and a Department Head meeting, and reminded staff and supervisors about a Heroes and Heavy Equipment event for county employees and elected officials at Secondary Roads. He said the county has posted the Risk Manager position and expects a forthcoming joint meeting with Planning & Zoning.

Supervisor Beck reviewed a recent Waste Commission meeting, noting the next cell is in process and the commission is considering a large litter fence; she also summarized Ports of Eastern Iowa activity and an Assessors meeting. Supervisor Dickson reported on Workforce Development and a CIPCO informational hearing, and said a Rock Island Commuter Passenger Rail Committee kickoff estimated seven to ten years to add an approximately 55-mile route to join at Wyanet for service to Chicago. Supervisor Bribriesco noted an upcoming meeting with the Seventh Judicial District. Chair John Maxwell summarized attendance at the Waste Commission and Assessors meetings and referenced Grow Quad Cities discussions about regional transportation types.
