Council debates Children's World pilot, asks for clearer expansion plan before funding changes

"We should fulfill our two-year obligation on the operating grant and drop the pilot program from next year’s budget," a council member said.
Members agreed that appointing a city liaison or board representative would improve communication and oversight. Staff said the remaining $14,680 that Children's World referenced is already budgeted for this fiscal year and that release of those funds can be decided at the pilot’s close in June when program outcomes are known. Several councilors urged the nonprofit to return with testimonials, architectural/space plans and an explicit figure for expansion costs before any additional commitments are made.
The council’s direction: fulfill existing short-term operational commitments, remove the pilot buy-down from the next budget cycle, and require clearer documentation from Children's World about expansion needs and proposed use of any additional city funds.
