Fire Chief Todd Frank told the Shelby City Council on April 7 that the city is considering an addition to the existing fire station to add apparatus bay space and improve operational capacity and safety. The proposal, produced by V&K Engineering, is intended to address current space limitations that affect the department’s ability to house modern fire apparatus and respond efficiently.
Frank said the addition would create additional apparatus bay space and extend the useful life of the station. Council members discussed next steps, including refining project scope, estimating costs, identifying funding sources and developing a construction timeline. Rick from V&K Engineering will obtain pricing for geotechnical work, including soil borings, to be presented at the next council meeting.
The council did not vote on funding or authorize construction at the April 7 meeting; members agreed to continue discussion and to review estimated costs and financing options before any formal commitment. The presentation framed the project as a capital planning item aimed at preserving emergency‑response capability and accommodating evolving equipment needs.
