Shelby council approves V&K survey, seasonal hiring ad, sets April tax-rate hearing and OKs July 4 event

The Shelby City Council approved a series of routine items during its Feb. 17, 2026 special session, including a V&K boundary and topographic survey, authorization to advertise for seasonal help, scheduling a tax-rate hearing and approval of a July 4 special event.
On motion by Council member Pat Honeywell, seconded by Council member Karen Schlueter, the council approved a proposal from V&K to complete a boundary and topographic survey of Parcel ID 774004251007 in the City of Shelby for $5,100. The motion passed by roll call with all ayes.
Also on motion by Honeywell, seconded by Jackie Hursey, the council authorized advertising for seasonal help with a wage range of $15 to $18 per hour; the advertisement will remain open through the March 3, 2026 meeting. On motion by Jackie Hursey, seconded by Pat Honeywell, the council set the Proposed Tax Rate Hearing for April 7, 2026.
On a separate motion by Pat Honeywell, seconded by Karen Schlueter, the council approved the Special Event Application for “America on Fire,” a city-sponsored July 4 event presented by the Fire Department; the council asked the fire department to revisit the fireworks location. The council also approved the Feb. 17, 2026 claims list by unanimous vote.
All routine motions in this grouping passed by unanimous roll call of members present. The special session adjourned at 7:36 p.m.
