Coventry Council appoints auditor, authorizes up to $90,000 for road salt and approves routine items

The Coventry Town Council approved several procedural and fiscal items on May 18, 2026. In unanimous votes (For: Hand, Gallagher, Thomas, Larson, Wheaton, Blanchard) the council accepted the May 4, 2026 meeting minutes, approved the consent agenda, appointed CliftonLarsonAllen as the town’s auditor for fiscal year 2025–26, and authorized up to $90,000 in excess Town Aid Road (TAR) revenue to purchase road salt.
Robyn Gallagher moved and Julie Blanchard seconded the motion to appoint CliftonLarsonAllen; Gallagher noted the town’s portion of the auditor fee is $43,950 and that the town had budgeted around $43,000. The motion carried unanimously.
Jonathan Hand moved and Robyn Gallagher seconded the motion to authorize the use of excess TAR revenue up to $90,000 for a salt purchase. Council members said purchasing salt while prices are low is prudent because salt is nonperishable; concerns were raised about storage conditions and a storage cover in one overflow location. Town Manager James Drumm said the purchase will use FY25/26 funds and that the town expects an additional TAR payment next year; Gallagher noted the purchase will reduce the typical carryover for road projects.
The council voted to adjourn at 10:02 PM by unanimous vote. These votes were recorded as formal motions in the meeting minutes.
