Selectmen set special meeting to finalize senior-center assistant pay after board hears options

Carol Lee said she surveyed nearby towns and offered a recommended hourly range of $20 to $28, and proposed $24 an hour as an appropriate midpoint for the assistant role. "I would like to suggest that we pay $24 an hour," Lee said during discussion. Members noted the assistant should be paid less than the director and that the board should review the job description and current compensation documentation before a final vote.
Town Administrator Jim Balano and Tess (the senior-center director) confirmed the job description revisions are being circulated to the board and said staff will provide the treasurer's guidance on budget impacts. Board members agreed an email exchange followed by an official special meeting would provide time to collect data and allow the board of finance to be informed of any budget change.
The board also discussed procedural options for deciding by email vote versus a short public special meeting; members agreed an open special meeting is preferable to ensure transparency and to give the board of finance direct notice of any compensation changes.
Outcome: Board scheduled a short special public meeting for the following Monday to set the assistant's pay and confirm the contract after members review the job description and financial details.
