Pocahontas County supervisors approve bridge contract, stop signs, hires, 28E agreements and claims

The Pocahontas County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved a range of routine county business, including a road contract award, traffic control changes, personnel acknowledgements, intergovernmental agreements and the county’s claims.
Tate Schmeling, the county engineer (participating by telephone), reviewed Iowa DOT bid‑letting results and the board voted to award project 76‑C076‑077 (Garfield 4/9 bridge‑to‑culvert) to Midwest Contracting. The motion to approve the award was offered by Supervisor Peter Seehusen, seconded by Supervisor Kyle Smith, and passed unanimously.
Schmeling also recommended establishing stop control at the intersection of 470th Street and 300th Avenue; the board adopted Resolution 2026‑06‑#26 to establish the stop signs by roll call (Seehu sen, Siepker, Stauter, Smith and Aden voted aye). The board acknowledged hires including Nicholas Erickson as summer help in the engineer’s office starting June 15, 2026 at $24.67 per hour and Shelby Stewart as a Public Health home‑health aide/homemaker starting June 15, 2026 at $21.12 per hour. The minutes also show the board approved the Recorder’s monthly report of fees and accepted multiple manure management plans for farms named in the record.
On intergovernmental matters the board approved a 28E law enforcement agreement with the City of Rolfe and adopted the related Resolution 2026‑06‑#27. The board also approved adding Emmet County into the NW Iowa YES 28E agreement; both votes passed unanimously.
The board approved the claims docket as presented, which included routine vendor payments and a jail bond payment to UMB Bank in the amount of $448,350.00. Supervisors also authorized assigning a county‑held certificate on parcel 1511101006 to Bette Warnke for $361.86. Linking Families & Communities director Elizabeth Stanek attended and the board voted to become the employer of record for her organization; the organization will provide a contract/agreement to formalize the arrangement.
The meeting concluded with routine weekly reports from supervisors and the board’s adjournment.
