City staff reported they had received a letter from the FAA approving moving forward with the airport improvement portion of the project and outlined a preliminary schedule: 30% design completion by January, with final design and grant submission targeted for April 1. Staff said they will file required DBE (disadvantaged business enterprise) documents and noted a DBE participation goal of 5.7 percent for bidding and contracting processes. "We received a go letter from FAA saying they're willing to move forward," a staff member said.
Staff described construction as roughly a 50 working-day project during which the runway would be closed, and said the city intends to include the drainage work as an alternate bid if initial bids are higher than expected so resurfacing can proceed within budget. The council approved proceeding with the application; no final construction contract was awarded at the meeting.
