Delaware County Car Cruisers ask council for clear boundary on downtown show; council seeks staff clarification

The Delaware County Car Cruisers told the Manchester City Council they expect 60 to more than 100 vehicles at their Aug. 9 "show and shine" and asked the city to confirm which streets and alleys would be closed so the club’s sponsors are not displaced by outside food vendors.

"The reason for our club in the first place is to support our community and bring some wholesome family fun to the city," the Car Cruisers representative said, urging that the event area be kept for club participants and their sponsors.

Council members voiced support for the club’s downtown presence but asked staff to clarify a precise barricade perimeter, noting a nearby alley and an adjacent handicap parking stall that could complicate temporary closures. "We're just looking for clarification on that boundary so there's no question who can be on what side of the fence," the Chair said.

Council discussed options including closing the alley on the south side to square off the event area, keeping a parking stall open nearby for business access, or moving some club parking into adjacent lots (Community Savings Bank and other lots were mentioned as possibilities). Council asked the police chief and city staff to research whether a handicap stall can be temporarily blocked and what steps would be required to do so legally and safely.

Council did not take a final vote in the special meeting; staff will return with legal and logistical clarifications and the street‑closure request will be scheduled for a future council agenda for formal action.

The council also encouraged better advance coordination between event organizers and staff to ensure barricade placement does not remove needed vehicle or trailer access for participants.
