The Sharon Board of Finance on Jan. 6 discussed a personnel proposal from First Selectman Flanagan that would create a full-time Facilities Maintenance/Road Crew position and a Parks & Recreation Director. The proposal, which included responsibilities, projected expenditures and potential savings, drew a consensus from BOF members that the Board of Selectmen should proceed with the concept.
Members emphasized that the overall financial outcome will not be final until the close of the fiscal year, when the Board of Education must approve any necessary year-end transfers. The group set a hiring target of March and said advertisements should be published early in January to meet that timeline.
Ms. Fowler distributed an agenda for a joint special meeting of the BOF, BOS and BOE scheduled for Jan. 13, 2026 at 5:30 PM; Mr. Hecht will present the BOF portion, explaining BOF oversight of the town budget and how the Undesignated Fund is funded and may be used. The board also stressed improving inter-board communications and recommended sharing quarterly budget reports among the BOS, BOF and BOE to increase transparency for members and residents.
No formal hiring decisions or budget appropriations were made at the special meeting; the BOF expressed support for the staffing concept and asked the BOS to continue work on job descriptions and recruitment steps.
