Middlebury commission schedules repairs at Fenn’s Farm; members to help tenant move belongings

He said the town’s contract requires the repairs and that the tenant, identified as Mr. Fenn, had expressed concern about personal items stored in the attic that could impede work.
Gabrielson proposed that members of the Land Preservation & Open Space Acquisition Commission and volunteers from the Middlebury Land Trust assist Mr. Fenn in moving his belongings so contractors can complete repairs. He said Mr. Fenn agreed to the plan. Repair work on the porch roof is scheduled to start Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, according to Gabrielson.
The commission referenced a Toce Engineering report concerning the roof leak and structural repairs during the discussion. Gabrielson also reported that the commission’s 2025–2026 budget line has sufficient funds to cover the remaining repair expenses at Fenn’s Farm.
Next steps recorded in the minutes include Gabrielson reaching out to the Middlebury Land Trust to request volunteer assistance and the scheduled start of repair work on Jan. 12. The commission did not record a separate motion to authorize the repairs beyond noting the budget sufficiency and the chairman’s outreach plan.
