Macksburg council adopts $15 hourly pay for preapproved council projects, approves park tree removals

The Macksburg City Council on April 7 adopted a $15 hourly compensation rate for council members who perform preapproved city projects and approved contracting to remove three dying trees in the city park.
Council Member Matt Owens moved to set an hourly rate of $15 for preapproved council projects; Council Member Jimi Davis seconded and Resolution No. 20250408 was adopted unanimously. The resolution establishes the pay rate and requires projects be preapproved before payment.
Separately, Council Member Charlie DeBord moved to hire Zach Huddelston to remove three dying trees in the city park at a cost of $1,000 per tree and to evaluate a fourth tree for potential removal; Council Member Carolyn DeBord seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The council also agreed that local volunteers coordinating planter maintenance in the park may be reimbursed for plant purchases, a city-supported effort led by Council Member Carolyn DeBord.
Council members noted additional park work planned this week, including installation of cement slabs to support park amenities. The clerk reported follow-up is ongoing with the County Treasurer about an outstanding payment; the City Attorney has also sent a letter to the sheriff’s office requesting removal of property from the city maintenance building site.
The council adjourned at 7:12 p.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Macksburg City Hall.
