Macksburg council approves 2025 committee assignments, accepts treasurer report and bills

The Macksburg City Council on Jan. 6 approved its 2025 committee assignments, accepted the December 2024 treasurer's report and approved January bills totaling $1,997.34.
Council member Jimi Davis moved to approve the committee roster, which names Charlie DeBord as mayor pro tem; assigns Carolyn DeBord and Jimi Davis to the lights committee; Jimi Davis, Rhonda Dean, Matt Owens and Carolyn DeBord to parks; Mayor Kevin Jackson, Matt Owens and Charlie DeBord to streets; and Tricia Gardner and Carolyn DeBord to administration. Council member Charlie DeBord seconded the motion and it carried with ayes.
The council also approved the consent agenda, which the minutes say included the minutes from the Dec. 2, 2024 regular meeting, the December treasurer's report and bills to be paid. Council member Matt Owens moved to approve the consent agenda; Jimi Davis seconded and the motion carried with ayes.
City Clerk and Treasurer Tricia Gardner presented the December treasurer's report, showing closing balances of $1,040.33 in checking, $365,430.84 in savings and $25,811.27 in certificates of deposit for a combined balance of $392,282.44. The council approved claims with a listed total of $1,997.34, which include multiple payments to Alliant Energy for street and park lights, SIRWA water/sewer charges, a Union State Bank loan payment and other local expenses.
During board communications, Council member Matt Owens reported a streetlight outage on Eldorado and South streets; the minutes record that the City Clerk will notify Mid-American Energy to report the outage. The minutes also note that Clerk Gardner and Council member Carolyn DeBord are continuing work to establish a food pantry, and that the clerk provided an update on a County Treasurer payment (no dollar amount was specified).
No nuisance complaints were received, according to the minutes. Council member Jimi Davis moved to adjourn at 6:30 p.m.; Council member Matt Owens seconded and the motion carried. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Macksburg City Hall.
