Ansonia schools report 200 new student registrations, officials warn of unbudgeted needs

Superintendent DiBacco told the Ansonia Board of Education Sept. 18 that roughly 200 students have registered in the district since August, creating unbudgeted needs that affect classroom sizes and services.
DiBacco said the sudden influx includes students with needs that were not budgeted for and warned it affects classroom size and other operational demands. Mr. Bobby Lisi and Youth Family Outreach staff confirmed registrations have risen significantly; Lisi described home-visit results and work with the Juvenile Review Board while flagging chronic absenteeism as an ongoing issue.
Special Education Director Stephanie Savo reviewed caseload numbers and programming supports, including Professional Development, PCRC training and CT-SEDS training. Savo also highlighted district initiatives such as Best Buddies, the LifeSkills Program and the high-school Transition Program to support students with disabilities.
Board members discussed these pressures during informational reports but did not take new budget actions beyond approving transfers earlier in the evening.
