Community Relations Committee seeks board direction on Sharon School District priorities for 2024–25

The Sharon BOE Community Relations Committee met Oct. 9 at Sharon Center School for a planning and brainstorming session on priorities for the 2024–25 school year, and concluded it needed clearer direction from the full Sharon School District board before taking steps on staffing, budgeting or outside consultants, the committee clerk said.
Most of the meeting was "an open, informal, and free flowing discussion," the clerk recorded. Committee members raised several recurring priorities: analyzing student performance/test results, addressing school climate and social‑emotional wellbeing for students and staff, and examining per‑student costs tied to student body size and budget projections.
Committee participants also discussed communications and development work, including whether the district should budget for a consultant to produce a PR/development plan. Ideas under consideration included building a refreshed visual image for the school, promoting Sharon Center School's strengths to the community and region, and revamping the district website to make it more inviting and easier to maintain.
On next steps, the committee "decided we needed direction from the Board as to: what are the goals for Sharon BOE for school year 2024‑2025, and clarification of what the specific objectives are for [the] Community Relations Committee," the clerk said. That guidance, the committee agreed, is necessary before recommending budgeting for consultants or implementing a communications plan.
The meeting, which began at 11:05 a.m., ended at 12:00 p.m.
