Macksburg council approves consent agenda, assigns siren service and extends property deadline

At its June 2 meeting the Macksburg City Council approved the agenda and consent agenda (including $11,165.98 in claims), granted a 30-day extension to remove encroaching items at the maintenance building, and voted to have Council Member Matt Owens service the city siren.
Mayor Kevin Jackson called the Macksburg City Council to order at 6:00 p.m. Monday and the council approved the meeting agenda and consent agenda by unanimous votes.
The consent agenda approved by Council Member Carolyn DeBord and seconded by Council Member Rhonda Dean included the May 5, 2025 regular meeting minutes, the May 2025 Treasurer’s Report and the June 2025 bills to be paid. The approved claims list totaled $11,165.98 and included a $6,865 annual insurance payment to Tyler Insurance Service and routine utility, payroll and maintenance items. The May Treasurer’s Report showed combined checking, savings and CD balances totaling $394,288.18, Clerk Tricia Gardner attested.
On old business the council recorded no update on the County Treasurer payment; the clerk will continue follow-up. The minutes state that a property owner adjacent to the city maintenance building has been granted a 30‑day extension to remove items encroaching on city property.
Under new business, Council Member Jimi Davis moved — and Council Member Rhonda Dean seconded — that Council Member Matt Owens will service the city siren; the motion carried unanimously. The council also raised concerns about the condition of the city park and agreed to communicate with the current mowing contractor about continued upkeep.
During board communication the council discussed the local food pantry, emphasizing that it is stocked by donations and should be used as a supplement rather than a full grocery source; the council directed that a notice be placed on the city sign requesting donations and reminding users to take only what is needed.
Council Member Jimi Davis moved to adjourn at 7:05 p.m.; Council Member Carolyn DeBord seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The council announced its next regular meeting for Monday, July 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Macksburg City Hall.
