Macksburg council approves consent agenda, schedules siren service and other routine actions

At the May 5, 2025 Macksburg City Council meeting, members approved the agenda and consent agenda, authorized a citizen to service the tornado siren, granted a 30-day extension for property removal next to the maintenance building, approved buying a dehumidifier, and tabled internet for the maintenance building until June.
The Macksburg City Council met May 5, 2025, at City Hall and approved the meeting agenda and a consent agenda that included the April 7 minutes, the April treasurer's report and the May bills to be paid.
The council approved the agenda after a motion by Council Member Matt Owens, seconded by Council Member Rhonda Dean. Owens also moved approval of the consent agenda; Council Member Carolyn DeBord seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
In public forum, citizen Mike Carlson suggested the city have its tornado warning siren serviced and said he would perform the work. Council Member Carolyn DeBord moved to have Carlson service the siren; Council Member Charlie DeBord seconded and the motion carried.
The council directed the City Clerk to issue notices asking property owners who need to mow to do so. The clerk also reported she will continue following up on a pending County Treasurer payment for which there was no update at the meeting.
Council granted the property adjacent to the City Maintenance building an additional 30 days to remove personal items from city property. The council also approved the purchase of a new dehumidifier for the maintenance building following a motion by Owens and a second from Jimi Davis.
The council reported several operational items: new gravel was placed on some town roads; flowers will be added to park planters with citizen assistance; and Zach Huddleston is scheduled to remove four large dead trees in the city park.
A discussion item about providing internet service at the maintenance building was tabled until the June meeting. Council members reminded residents of Iowa guidance on grass clippings and advised homeowners to blow clippings back onto their own property.
The council approved the month's claims totaling $7,037.14 and received the treasurer's report showing a total city balance of $397,104.19. The meeting adjourned at 7:04 p.m.; the next regular meeting is set for Monday, June 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at Macksburg City Hall.
