Sand Lake council unanimously adopts resolution declaring Sept. 20 POW/MIA Day

At its July 15, 2024 regular meeting, the Sand Lake Village Council unanimously approved Resolution 2024-05, a proclamation declaring Sept. 20, 2024, as Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Day. Councilmember Helton moved to approve the resolution and Councilmember Wright seconded; a roll call vote recorded Doerr, Wright, Helton, Merritt, Christensen, Latham and Camilleri voting yes and the motion carried.

The proclamation was the principal action under new business at the six-minute meeting. Earlier on the agenda Councilmember Wright moved to adopt the meeting agenda, seconded by Councilmember Camilleri; that motion carried. The council also accepted the consent agenda — covering the minutes from the June 17 regular meeting, July accounts payable, cash receipting and account balances, and items for the fire department, DPW and zoning — after a motion by Councilmember Christensen and a second from Councilmember Helton.

During the meeting’s public comment periods, a resident thanked the village for posting signage related to parking and driving for Fourth of July events. Later, another resident asked when E Lake St will be paved; no formal response or schedule for paving was recorded in the minutes. The public comment periods opened at 7:01 p.m. (closed 7:03) and 7:04 p.m. (closed 7:05), respectively.

President Doerr called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.; Councilmember Wright made the motion to adjourn at 7:06 p.m., seconded by Councilmember Christensen. The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 19, 2024. Minutes were submitted by Village Clerk Donna Westerbrink.
