The Sharon Parks and Recreation Committee on Jan. 14, 2026 approved the purchase of a laptop for the incoming parks and recreation director and advanced work on a job advertisement for a director and maintenance position.
Committee members voted to purchase a laptop from vendor Yuchatech for $1,202.59 to be charged to the Youth Services Telephone/Internet/Website line. The motion to buy the laptop was made by M. Purdy and seconded by R. Aakjar and recorded as approved by the members present.
Christensen and Levengood summarized a job advertisement developed with Flanagan and Handelman for an open Director and maintenance position. The minutes say a short version of the ad will run for two weeks in the local newspaper and the full ad will be posted on the Town of Sharon website on Jan. 16, 2026; the application cutoff is Feb. 9, 2026. The minutes also note that Mette will forward the ad to the Connecticut Recreation website and to local colleges.
Members discussed the committee’s online registration platform. The minutes record that the committee considered switching from the current provider, Myrec.com, to CIVICPlus. The committee noted that CIVICPlus would be substantially more expensive but could offer a more streamlined, user-friendly system; Mette has been working on Myrec.com pages for the Little Rascals program and the committee will revisit the vendor decision after those pages are completed. B. Chatfield joined the meeting by phone during this discussion.
The minutes state the Director’s Report was discussed but do not provide details of that discussion or any follow-up assignments. Earlier routine business included approval of prior meeting minutes and the meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM after a motion by Purdy, seconded by Levengood.
The minutes were submitted by Donna Christensen and filed by the Sharon Town Clerk on Jan. 15, 2026 at 3:12 PM.
