Selectboard appoints George Flaherty Jr. to regional water authority seat, corrects another term

The Middlebury Selectboard voted on June 15 to fill its first required representative slot on the Aquarian Regional Water District policy board and to correct the term dates of an earlier appointee.
Chair explained that the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority had approved Aquarian Water Authority's ownership and operation of Aquarian Water Company, which requires member municipalities of the Aquarian Regional Water District to appoint representatives to a policy board. The chair moved to appoint George Flaherty Jr. (described in the meeting as an alternate on the board of finance) for a one-year term from 06/15/2026 to 06/30/2027; the board voted 'Aye' and the motion passed.
The board also corrected the length of Joanne Capuleti's previously announced appointment: the chair said the item had been entered as a two-year appointment in error and that it should be a four-year term running from 02/05/2026 to 02/05/2030. The board unanimously approved the correction.
Both actions were routine procedural votes; the chair praised Flaherty's collaborative skills and noted the staggered terms are intended to provide continuity as towns join the regional district.
