Peter of Fleis & Vandenbrink says Dean’s Excavating was lowest bidder on East Lake Street project; village to consider expanded scope

At the Dec. 16 Village of Sand Lake Board meeting, Peter of Fleis & Vandenbrink reported that bids for the East Lake Street reconstruction were opened with Dean’s Excavating the low bidder and under the grant amount; the engineer presented two options and will provide a contractor quote at the January meeting.
Peter of engineering firm Fleis & Vandenbrink told the Village of Sand Lake Board on Dec. 16 that bids for the East Lake Street project have been received and that Dean’s Excavating submitted the lowest bid, which came in below the grant amount. The board received two scope options and expects a contractor quote at its January meeting for a final decision.
Under Option 1, the project would be extended to use the remainder of the grant to reconstruct around the second curve on East Lake Street but would leave roughly 500 feet of roadway inside the village limits unaddressed. Under Option 2, the project would be extended to include that extra 500 feet, but doing so would require additional funds from the village to cover the added cost. Peter said the firm will bring a written quote to the board’s January meeting for the board to consider before authorizing contractor work.
The update provided the board with next steps: review the contractor quote in January and then decide whether to accept the grant-limited scope or authorize the village to fund the extended section. No formal motion to award the contract or to adopt either option was taken at the Dec. 16 meeting.
