At its Oct. 14 regular meeting, the Village of Sanford council approved a series of operational motions covering pay, utility agreements, bills and service limits.
Board pay: The council voted to raise council member meeting pay from $75 to $125 and to raise the president’s pay from $100 to $150 per meeting, effective after the Nov. 2024 election. The motion was made by Marcus Thrush, seconded by Don Whaley, and passed unanimously. Council members estimated the change would increase annual payouts by roughly $3,000 and said current revenues can cover the rise.
Consumers Energy agreements: The council voted to sign a Consumers Energy lighting agreement (motion by Marcus Thrush) and to accept lawyer‑approved changes to a Consumers Energy franchise agreement (motion by Carl Hamann); both motions passed unanimously.
Bills and minutes: Council approved Sept. 9 minutes and authorized payment of bills totaling $192,498.62 (motion by Carl Hamann; seconded by Don Whaley). The vote for the bills was recorded as Yeas: Leah Ziems, Marcus Thrush, Carl Hamann, Don Whaley and Dolores Porte.
Dumpster limit and fall cleanup: The council set a limit of eight dumpsters the village will pay for during the fall cleanup (motion by Leah Ziems, seconded by Don Whaley). The motion passed with Yeas: Carl Hamann, Don Whaley, Leah Ziems and Dolores Porte; Nay: Marcus Thrush.
Other: The board approved a Narcan dispenser installation (donated by Families Against Narcotics) and agreed to support 123Net’s state grant submittal through the Midland Business Alliance. The council also scheduled work on mission and vision statements for the November meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
