Sanford council approves $14,500 survey for proposed pump track parcel

The Village of Sanford voted unanimously Oct. 14 to accept Spicer’s $14,500 bid to survey a parcel near the rail trail that the village is pursuing for a proposed pump track.
The motion was made by Marcus Thrush and seconded by Leah Ziems; the council recorded no nays. President Dolores Porte said the parcel is being transferred from Midland County Parks & Recreation to the village and that the survey is the next step in moving the pump track project forward.
Porte also described preliminary discussions about a separate potential partnership with the Sanford Historical Society on a village hall remodel: Dave Haskin is preparing plans and cost estimates so SHS and the village can pursue grants if SHS purchases the building. Porte said SHS would own the building, while the village would pay monthly bills and maintain the lawn, pending a draft agreement and council approval.
Council members did not set a construction timetable for the pump track; the survey contract is the immediate action item. The village did not specify the date by which the survey will be completed.
