Sanford council approves sidewalks, ditch clearing, crosswalk repainting and conditional gator purchase

On Aug. 12 the council approved hiring Finney for Cedar Street sidewalks, contracted Grove Landscaping for ditch clearing at an estimated $300–$350 per hour, approved repainting stop lines and crosswalks, and authorized a gator purchase contingent on grant funding ($5,000 grant plus seeking $7,143.12).
The Village of Sanford approved several Department of Public Works projects during its Aug. 12 meeting.
DPW representative Matt Hall reported on multiple items. The council voted to award the Cedar Street concrete sidewalk project to Finney on a motion from Marcus Thrush, seconded by Don Whaley, with unanimous approval.
The council also approved contracting Grove Landscaping for ditch and bank cutting, budgeted as 15 hours at an estimated $300–$350 per hour to clear overgrowth along Peterson, Smith and Irish streets; Matt Hall and Carl will prioritize which areas to address first. Don Whaley moved and Leah Ziems seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Council approved a line-painting project to repaint stop lines and crosswalks on a motion by Don Whaley, seconded by Leah Ziems.
Separately, the council approved purchasing a new utility vehicle (a “gator”) on the condition that no village funds be used: the village will apply a $5,000 grant and seek additional grants to cover the remaining $7,143.12. Marcus Thrush moved and Don Whaley seconded; the vote was unanimous.
In other business, councilors again declined a county offer to take a foreclosure parcel on Mitchel Street, citing no municipal use, and adjourned the meeting at 8:35 p.m.
