Village of Sanford President Dolores Porte told the council Oct. 14 that the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved an after‑the‑fact request related to non‑permeable asphalt and other items, releasing $215,000 in final payment for a mitigation project.
Porte said the agreement requires the village to post a sign at the park noting the property was acquired with FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant funds and is governed by the grant’s rules. She also said the village continues to pursue a separate $400,000 final payment under a FEMA Public Assistance grant and has submitted paperwork showing which funding sources paid for each portion of the work.
The approval reduces outstanding reimbursement risk for past repairs, Porte said during her president’s report. Council members did not take a vote on the FEMA approval during the meeting; the report was provided as an update and next steps are administrative — signage and continued grant paperwork to secure the remaining Public Assistance payment.
The village did not specify a timeline for when the $400,000 payment might be received. The council will revisit related paperwork and implementation details as staff and the president finalize grant documentation.
