Rye conservation commission decommissions Trails Subcommittee, schedules June 2 meeting

Rye — At its May 14 meeting the Rye Conservation Commission voted to decommission the Trails Subcommittee and to centralize trail management within the full Commission.
Member Glenn Suchocki reported the subcommittee met twice and produced a prioritized task list focused on maintenance, improvements and the decommissioning of certain trails. The Commission voted to hold a full-trails meeting on June 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Rye Town Hall and named Suchocki the lead person responsible for managing the trails. The Commission also approved allotting $2,000 for ad hoc consultation with Rachel Stevens, whose report cites the New Hampshire Trails Bureau Best Practices on Trail Closures.
Commissioners said much of the work is maintenance that can be completed quickly and that decommissioning will follow state best practices. The motion to decommission the subcommittee and the funding allocation passed unanimously.
The Commission instructed Suchocki to share communications and updates with the full Commission and to coordinate the June meeting agenda to address closure tasks and implementation timelines.
