East Lampeter Park Board: trail walkthrough set, Gittins Park phase one targeted for 2027

The East Lampeter Township Park Board on Monday reported near-completion of a pedestrian trail and outlined next steps for several park projects, including a planned contracting phase for Gittins Park that staff hope will lead to construction in 2027.
Chair Jim Faber-Rodgers told the board the trail from Strasbourg Pike to Overlook Road is “pretty much complete” and that the township will perform a walkthrough on Friday to identify any punch-list items; “If there are none, it'll be substantially completed,” he said.
The board also is working with staff and the township engineer on a contract for phase one of Gittins Park, which Faber-Rodgers said will include the entrance, an exit, parking and a kayak and canoe launch. “We should be seeing documents within the next week or two, and hopefully have that constructed by the end of 2027. Uh that's the goal,” he said, noting construction timing depends on grant funding and contract finalization.
The Lafayette pavilion was reported to be structurally advanced: the roof is installed and the board expects final utility energization and electrician work, plumbing fixture installation, grading and final flooring over the coming weeks. Faber-Rodgers said the township anticipates most of that work will be complete within a month to six weeks and that staff will build picnic tables during rain days.
Board members also discussed ancillary park items: the baseball facility work was described as complete, with Michael Wolfe identified as the baseball president who bought paint, trim and shingles for finishing work and who may submit a building permit for dugouts consistent with prior approvals. The basketball court remains under review pending the outside engineer's submittal to zoning.
On trails beyond the immediate projects, Faber-Rodgers said the township has accepted the trail and trailheads along Water Street and that maintenance responsibility will now fall to the township. The board also reported ongoing final design for the Boehm Road trail and coordinated planning with Manheim Township, Lititz Borough and Lancaster City on the Great American Lancaster Heritage Pathway; a sub-design exists but jurisdictions must align easements and design ideas.
