Sanford receives updates on MEDC-CDBG-DR tile drain bid process and FEMA mitigation

The Village of Sanford Board on Nov. 11 received updates on multiple grant-funded infrastructure projects and planning efforts.
Officials reported the Sanford Tile Drain project is out for bid through the Midland County Drain Commission and is planned for completion in 2025 under the MEDC-CDBG-DR grant program. The Village is also working on a planning grant: the Planning Commission is updating the Recreational Plan and will issue a bid for planning support as part of the MEDC-CDBG planning grant.
On FEMA matters, the minutes record that FEMA Hazard Mitigation has approved the use of non-permeable asphalt for repairs and that FEMA Public Assistance is making a final determination on disbursement of funds for the Public Assistance portion of the grant; the Village continues to supply requested data.
The board also discussed a possible grant-supported acquisition and renovation of the building north of the Sanford Historical Society (2234 N Smith St.); Building Inspector Justin Finney plans a walkthrough to identify repairs and modifications if the Village pursues a grant application for use as Village Hall.
