Committee members agreed on June 22 that the city’s sustainability plan—last updated in 2019—needs a substantial refresh and proposed an in‑person work session in August to begin the update.
"It's time I guess we just need to talk about how best to get this updated," Patty Hoeltzel Malewitz said, showing the plan to members. Patty said she had reached out to Amanda Zimmerman for guidance on city greenhouse‑gas targets and expected a response after Zimmerman’s return from vacation.
Members discussed the best format for revising the roughly 35‑page plan: some recommended an in‑person, sit‑down workshop to work through objectives and questions; others suggested reviewing the document in advance and using the August meeting as a focused working session. Andy Humble and Bob Gilbert said they preferred meeting in person for interactive discussion; staff agreed to send the plan to committee members as homework ahead of the August meeting.
Committee members also noted that some past objectives have been completed while new goals should be added to reflect recent city and regional changes. No final policy changes were adopted at the meeting; staff will circulate the plan and a proposed in‑person session date before the committee reconvenes.
Next steps: staff to send the current plan to committee members, coordinate with city management on greenhouse‑gas targets, and schedule an August meeting for an in‑person work session.
