Rushford Village planning panel forwards liquor and gambling ordinance drafts to council

Planning and Zoning Administrator Jon Pettit said the draft liquor ordinance was prepared after Fillmore County informed the city it would stop issuing liquor licenses on Rushford Village’s behalf. Pettit told the commission renters of the municipal community center would still be permitted to have alcohol at events if they obtain the required insurance through the League of Minnesota Cities.
Commission member Glen Kopperud said he believed the previously reviewed ordinance was sufficient and questioned spending time or money on a new draft. Commissioner Jesse McNamer asked whether the draft addressed distributor licensing or THC products; Pettit said those matters remain under Fillmore County authority and are not included in the draft.
Commission member Gordon Johnson said the council ultimately must decide whether to adopt the ordinance and that he found the current draft dense and difficult to read.
After discussion, Hamilton Petersen moved and McNamer seconded a motion to forward both drafts to the City Council as presented; the motion carried. The commission’s action transmits the documents to the council for further review and possible revision or formal adoption at a future meeting.
Next step: the City Council will review the drafts and determine whether to amend, adopt, or refer the ordinances for additional legal drafting or public input.
