Norfolk Board of Education votes to remove bus routes from district website

At its Sept. 3 special meeting the Norfolk Board of Education voted unanimously to remove published bus routes from the district website after questions were raised about routes being posted online. The motion was made by J. Whitaker and seconded by J. DeShazo.
Board Chair Virginia Coleman-Prisco called the Norfolk Board of Education’s special meeting to order at 5:03 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2024. During the meeting the board voted to remove bus route information from the district website after a question was raised about routes posted online.
The motion to remove the routes was made by J. Whitaker and seconded by John DeShazo; the board approved the motion unanimously. Earlier in the meeting the board also approved the minutes of the Aug. 20, 2024 regular meeting on a motion by Walter Godlewski, seconded by Amy Bennett; J. Whitaker recorded an abstention on that vote.
Superintendent Mary Beth Iacobelli and Principal Lauren Valentino were present and provided routine administrative reports during the meeting. Fire Marshal Keith Byrne updated the board on the school’s annual inspection, as noted in the minutes.
Board members discussed committee assignments and workshop planning; the minutes record changes to sub-committee assignments and a possible board workshop date of Dec. 3. Jonathan Costa was named as gathering survey data; the survey was to be closed, according to the minutes.
The meeting concluded with a motion by John DeShazo, seconded by Amy Bennett, to adjourn; the meeting ended at 6:14 p.m.
