The consultant’s assessment provided two cost estimates: dam removal with contingencies estimated at about $310,000 and dam rehabilitation with contingencies estimated at about $1.39 million. The Selectboard voted to accept the SLR report and asked staff to confirm with the Brookline Conservation Committee that dam removal and restoration of the stream to a natural channel is the best ecological and financial choice.
Separately, the board voted to adopt the town’s Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was amended in 2023 and requested by the State for formal adoption. Both motions passed by roll call.
No final decision on removal versus rehabilitation was made at the Dec. 9 meeting; the board directed further coordination with the Conservation Committee and affirmed acceptance of the consultant’s analysis for future planning and budgeting.
