Principal Beth Johnson told the North Canaan Board of Education on Jan. 14 that the district is projecting student counts for 2025–26 and that early childhood and kindergarten numbers will shift as new enrollments arrive.
Johnson said the school currently has one fourth-grade teacher and will need to hire a second fourth-grade teacher next year to accommodate a larger incoming class. She noted the PreK, EK and kindergarten projections were provisional and would be updated as enrollment changes occur.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeanine Rose also reported ongoing curriculum work in the district’s Rubicon Atlas platform, planned classroom walkthroughs to gather data for professional learning and school-improvement goals, and reminded the board the Winter Assessment window runs Jan. 6–24, 2025, using the FASTBridge universal screening tool.
No personnel hires were approved at the meeting; the minutes record the staffing need as part of the enrollment discussion rather than as a formal action item.
