North Canaan Board approves $2,003 for AIMSweb screening training

The North Canaan Board of Education on Nov. 13 approved $2,003 to fund training for the AIMSweb universal screening assessment. Mrs. Dodge moved the measure and Mrs. Grant seconded; the Board voted 6–yes.
Dr. Jeanine Rose, the Assistant Superintendent (appearing virtually), told the Board the district had selected AIMSweb to replace the FASTBridge screening tool for grades K–12. Dr. Rose said AIMSweb is state‑approved and aligns with Science of Reading expectations, and that the training expenditure covers implementation needs for the new screening tool.
Board members asked questions while Superintendent Melony Brady‑Shanley and Dr. Rose explained the decision-making process for selecting the assessment. The Board’s approval authorizes the district to proceed with the training purchase; Dr. Rose will oversee implementation with school staff.
The approval followed an agenda amendment earlier in the meeting to add the training item for action. The Board did not record any amendments to the funding amount during the vote session.
