The commission introduced Peter Aziz, owner of Valiant Energy and a Norfolk resident since 2019, as a potential new member; Cheryl Heller will propose him to the first selectman for official appointment.
The EDC approved a $1,500 allocation for advertising for the Artists and Friends festival. Commission members asked for a detailed expense breakdown and measures of effectiveness; Jon Riedeman will provide those details offline with support from Heller and Elizabeth ("Libby") Borden.
Members also established a budget subcommittee—Cheryl Heller, Elizabeth Borden and Brett Robbins—to allocate the remaining fiscal‑year budget without requiring full‑commission votes for individual expenses.
Following follow‑up interviews with local business owners, the commission concluded there was not enough demand for a formal mentoring program and instead recommended creating a public speaker series on topics such as grant writing, financial management and communications. Members were encouraged to attend a Connecticut Main Street workshop on June 2.
The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. and members joined a presentation about the future of Infinity Hall.
