Steel framing advanced as site work and drainage continue; slab pour delayed

Rich Breitenbach, project manager for Newfield Construction, told the committee that the original plan to finish underground utilities before erecting structural steel was altered after plumbing setbacks. To keep the project moving, most structural steel has been erected above the apparatus bay; Breitenbach said weld and bolt inspections are scheduled for next week.
Site work continues on the south side of the property. The civil engineer recommended, and crews implemented, clearing muck from the back swale and installing two rows of pipe behind the retaining wall to improve drainage. Breitenbach said a carpenter is on site reviewing window and door jamb layouts and that construction of a block wall between the apparatus bays and the training room is the next structural step because remaining training room framing depends on that wall.
Upcoming work includes roughly two weeks of slab preparation, installation of the radiant heating system, then the final slab pour. The construction subcommittee (Zanobi, Torrant, Ludwig) discussed obtaining pricing to construct the garage foundation and slab now, while related site work is under way, with the garage structure to be built after the main station is complete; the committee took no action. The committee also approved the April 16 minutes (M/S/P Mark Morgan/Susan MacEachron).
